Matt had chronic asthma and used swimming to control it. His parents used to drive him 100km to train every morning. How amazing are those parents!?
Has been named swimmer of the meet at the past 3 Shortcourse World Championships.
His weakest stroke is probably backstroke, though it has improved greatly with the help of coach Gennadi Touretski.
Matt is considered to be one of the worlds best turners, also the work of Gennadi.
Trains with the likes of Micheal Klim.
Currently holds the 400im shortcourse WR.
Member of the team which broke the 4x200 free shortcourse WR.
Matt recently broke a leg.
Sorry girls, Matt has a girlfriend.
Likes to snow ski.
Sydney 2000 will be Matt's 3rd Olympics. Other swimmers who have accomplished this feat include Kieren Perkins and Susie O'neill.
In 1997, Matt received the Sporting Achievers' Award presented by Asthma Victoria. This award is given to athletes with asthma who have excelled.
